WDP has led coalitions that passed groundbreaking policies requiring paid sick days for all employees in the cities of Austin and San Antonio—the first ordinances of their kind in the South

    • Published “Build a Better South,” a regional study of working conditions on construction sites across the southern United States


    • Ensured fair wages and safe working conditions for more than 19,000 construction workers through WDP’s innovative Better Builder® program


    • Won a Houston ordinance requiring developers receiving tax abatement to provide construction workers with OSHA safety training


    • Won a Dallas Independent School District policy that ended their practice of notifying immigration enforcement when they encounter undocumented persons


    • Together with partners, successfully moved every major city in Texas to join a lawsuit against the state over SB 4


    • Won paid rest breaks for construction workers in Dallas and Austin, the first ordinances of their kind in Texas


    • Recovered more than $2 million in back wages or injury compensation for more than 1,900 low-wage workers through legal and direct action


  • Educated more than 27,000 workers on their employment rights and how to defend them
