Immigrant Advocates, Labor, and Local Electeds Stand Against ICE Raids
AUSTIN, TX— In response to reports of raids by Immigrations Customs and Enforcement (ICE) in north Austin this morning, community organizations, labor advocacy groups and local elected officials will hold a press conference. Workers Defense Executive Director José Garza releases the following statement in response to the raids:
“We are deeply concerned about increased immigration enforcement activity in our community. These activities come on the heels of recent public threats by state and national elected officials. These attacks on the hard-working men and women in our city are reprehensible,” said Garza, Executive Director of WDP. “Immigrant families are the backbone of our Texas economy. We need common sense immigration policies at the state and local level that keep our community safe and ensure the Texas businesses and economy thrive.”
Workers Defense Project stands with the Texas AFLCIO, local labor advocates UNITE-HERE and Education Austin, Grassroots Leadership, and Austin City Council Member Greg Casar to decry these attacks on our community.
