WDP Statement on Sheriff Hernandez’s Decision to End ICE Collaboration

BREAKING: Workers Defense Project issued the following statement in response to Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez’s decision to end Travis County’s current policy of collaboration with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE):

“On behalf of immigrant families, Workers Defense Project applauds Sheriff Sally Hernandez for her decision to stand up for civil rights in Austin,” said Executive Director Jose P. Garza. “Sheriff Hernandez’s decision will make our communities safer by creating trust with our citizens to report crimes, and will reduce the taxpayer burden placed on Travis County residents by our broken immigration system.”
