On May 1, immigrants and allies across the country will resist to demonstrate the power and strength of immigrants in the United States. In Austin, TX on May 1 will be a day without work and without school, it will be a day of protest where we will show our economic power through our collective power and the importance of the contributions of the immigrants and low wage workers who have built not only our city but have led to the economic success of the United States.
On this day we are marching through downtown Austin in solidarity with all immigrant and low-wage workers, we are calling on employers to oppose discrimination against their employees and to call on politicians to cease their attacks on immigrants.
The event will begin with a rally at City Hall (301 W 2nd St, Austin, TX 78701) at 3pm. Where we will have a few speakers, including some of our members and representatives from ally organizations, such as Fight for 15 striking worker, labor ally, Faith leader, student leader, BSN or another black led organization. (still need to confirm all of this).
After the rally, at 3:15 pm, we will be marching from City Hall down to the Capitol. Once at the Capitol we might have some teach-ins along with some other organizations.
